Saraki Vows To Give PCC Legal Backing To Punish Offenders

The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki on Wednesday has vowed to empower the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) and give required legal backing to punish offenders lamenting that the commission has been existing for decades by name.

Dr. Saraki disclosed this when the management of the commission paid a courtesy visit to the President of the senate.
He said it is important for the commission to function properly in order for citizens to have a sense of belonging.
Mr Saraki said: “This is a very important commission but unfortunately over the years have not played that role.
“In other countries, there are commissions like this are established but in this country, they are just established by name.
“The name of PCC should have people in the public service to seat up.
“You must show your strength and the senate is ready to back you up.
“We want a commision that Nigerians will know that when someone does something wrong, they can write to you and are sure that something will be done.
“So that later, you will be able to come back and let us know what you have done,”he said.
Mr Emmanuel Ogbili, the Chairman of PCC who was in support said that they do not have to wait for Nigerians to complain before complaints are filed.
He also said that a capacity building will be organised in order to interact with citizens in a public form to air out complaints.
In conclusion, he assured the senate that they have been working over the past years and will continue to work hard. Some of the senators present were Sen. Ibn Na’allah representing Kebbi state,Sen. Andy Uba representing Anambra state, Sen.Sunny Uboji representing Ebonyi state amongst others.
